The feral life of a cat is a hard one as they often find themselves pitted against disease, dogs, traffic and even angry humans. The average lifespan is is about one and one-half years. Each female can be responsible for eight to twelve kittens per year and the males even more.

For example, one female can reasonably have 2 female kittens in any litter and 2 litters per year after she becomes 6 months of age. When we use these numbers as an example, then female kittens born every 6 months (from mom and her progeny) expand exponentially:

2 x 3 = 6 x 3 = 18 x 3 = 54 x 3 = 162 x 3 = 486

If we add all of the kittens born every 6 months we get a total of 728 kittens born to this family in only 3 years time! And this is only counting the female kittens.
